Artist's Comments

After a very long and hard work week , I found these Buddhas on my way home. They sent their peace my way.

This is a really interesting image. Is it really a photo? Was it manipulated in any way? How did you achieve it?

Just at a glance it's beautiful and soothing, but there are some interesting symbolic elements. I'm probably overthinking it, but look at the wooden cross made by the window panes overlaying the buddhas - that's kind of symbolic of Christianity, and then surrounding it all are these symbols of nature, the white branches and leaves. It's harmonic, nothing's fighting, so it kind of represents ... well, peace between all those symbolic elements.

I also like the light coming in from the right and the contrast of the stark, rough woods against the swirly window decoration and the smooth texture of the buddhas. It's really beautiful and interesting.

Just to add to my earlier comment - the other thing I noticed that was interesting is that the white branches and and leaves are also kind of symbolic of the vegetal patterns in Islamic art (it's been a while since I took art history, so I had to look it up). So the way all the elements work together in harmony is moving. Made me think about it, which is why I came back to re-comment!

Sorry, I'm alittle behind responding to notes this week. Thank you for your interest. The image is a combination of a number of photographs combined digitally. Your comments really touch me, because I have always been drawn to the religions of the world . And as ever day goes by the need for peace among all of us is more evident than ever. I guess my subconscious was in overdrive with this one :-) I am so grateful to you for sharing your thought with me.

Very cool thanks for the link. When I create these images I try to let the images tell me where to go next. I know that I draw from my experiences and all the images I have spent gazing upon but there is another source that adds it's hand to the work. Thank you again for your perspective on this work.

It's interesting isn't it - I was terribly proud of myself for picking up on all the (maybe even unintended) nuances. Once I saw them, though, I thought they were fascinating and that made the picture ever more beautiful. Shared it with a bunch of people, because it kinda means - well, isn't this is what art is about?

And then I love how people say they see peace in this work. :) I totally do, too.

In a time when peace is so yearned for I am so humbled that so many see peace. I remember the night I photographed the Buddhas. It was a good moment after a very long , hard week. I guess peace comes when we are willing to look for it. Thanks for your comments.
